Hair Transplant
There are several treatment options for thinning hair or baldness, each of which works differently. Once the hair growth cycle is understood, hair restoration surgery emerges as being the most effective treatment option. While other non-surgical hair restoration options may be less expensive, hair transplant surgery offers a natural-looking solution for baldness. The surgery utilizes your existing healthy follicles to reintroduce hair growth.
Hair Loss In Men
Male hair loss occurs when hairs sensitive to a hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is converted from testosterone, begin to undergo thinning. Unfortunately, the hairs then progressively become smaller and shorter. This process of hair loss is referred to as miniaturization- thick terminal hairs of youth are slowly transformed into thinner “vellus” hairs, which subsequently are lost. The Norwood Hair Loss classification system is used to describe distinct patterns of male hair loss. There are two primary ways of treating male hair loss: non-surgical and surgical. There are benefits to each and more often than not we combine the two.
Hair Loss In Women
Nearly 30% of females over the age of 30 years old experience hair thinning. So believe it or not, hair transplants in females is not uncommon. This procedure improves hair density and shape in cases of female hair loss. Furthermore, hair transplants are also offered to females after our signature hairline lowering surgery. This provides further hair density at the front of the hairline but also helps camouflage the scar better.
Hairline Lowering Surgery
Hairline lowering surgery takes place under anesthesia so our patients do not have any pain or memory during the procedure. It only takes about an hour and a half during which Dr. Demetri is able to lower the hairline anywhere from 2-4 cm. One of the main benefits of this surgery is the immediate result. During your consultation, Dr. Demetri will evaluate your hairline to ensure you have a flexible scalp to allow for robust advancement. Furthermore, he will check to see if any significant hair thinning or loss is present which may indicate you are not an ideal candidate.
Neograft VS ARTAS Robot
FUE is the preferred technique by Dr. Demetri because it is virtually “scarless.” We utilize the Neograft harvesting system whereby individual hair follicles are harvested from the back of the head. With FUE, patients can shave their entire head in the future without worrying about any linear donor site scar. After harvesting, the transplanted hairs are then placed into precise recipient sites at the hairline or crown for optimal hair growth. Dr. Demetri and his team customize your recipient sites based on your personal hair direction, pattern, and angulation. This is extremely important to have this done by trained experts in hair restoration for natural results. We perform our procedures under local anesthesia so you are awake but numb the entire time.
Hair Loss Medication
Hair loss medications are typically comprised of several formulas. They can contain finasteride, minoxidil, and/or retinoic acid. Dr. Demetri offers a specialized hair loss medication, compounded with a medical formulation that includes topical finasteride (Propecia), minoxidil (Rogaine) and retinoic acid. Propecia tends to show better results if the patient still has a large amount of fine thinning hairs. In cases of extensive hair loss, finasteride may not be able to provide desired results. Younger candidates respond better to the treatment, despite being also effective in older individuals.
